My interest in accounting and financial institutions developed gradually through both early exposure and professional experience. Accounting was present in my environment from an early age (my father is an accountant), which fostered a lasting interest in the discipline. My interest in financial institutions took shape later, through my experience in the financial services industry before beginning my PhD. Although I did not particularly enjoy industry work itself, I became fascinated by the role accounting plays in structuring real financial transactions. That experience ultimately led me to pursue doctoral research.
I later decided to focus on accounting in banking after taking a PhD course on Financial Crises taught by Professor Elena Carletti, who later on became my PhD advisor and mentor. This was in the aftermath of the 2023 U.S. banking crisis, which also provided inspiration for my job market paper.
In my research, I often use banking as a setting because I believe accounting information is especially important in this context, given its complex interaction with regulation, market participants' beliefs, and financial stability externalities.
Outside the office
When I don't work, I enjoy cooking 🍝 (mainly Italian food, but not only!), knitting & crocheting 🧶, reading📚, and watching soccer ⚽ (SSC Napoli fan).
I grew up in Sorrento, a town located in Southern Italy close to Naples and the Amalfi Coast, and allegedly the birthplace of Limoncello!🍋
